Dirty Tiles Are a Thing of the Past for This Mudroom in Thompson's Station, Tennessee, Thanks to a Grout Cleaning Service
May 09, 2017
A Tennessee resident contacted us a while ago asking about our grout cleaning services in Thompson's Station. She was a working mom who had recently moved back to the town after several years. She grew up in Tennessee's Village Green, but moved to Nashville for college, where she pursued her career as a teacher and where she met her husband. Now with two kids and a family dog, she was looking to give her family a more tranquil environment. Therefore, she chose to return to Thompson's Station and move into a lovely house she had recently inherited from her relatives. The house was surprisingly well-preserved despite its age—she, her husband, and the kids loved it entirely, from the bedrooms, the little garden where the kids could play, to the mudroom at the back of the house. Nevertheless, as they began their fresh start, the new residents wanted to invest a small budget to make a few important improvements to the property, like repainting the walls, changing the windows, replacing the rain gutters. Among these upgrades, they wanted to renovate and clean the mudroom's deteriorated floor.
After years of leaving dirty clothes and shoes in the mudroom, which also served as a back entryway to the property, the grout lines of the floor turned brown and grimy. Along with the white furniture and white laundry appliances, the darkened grout stood out even more. The Tennessee residents disliked how the dirty lines appeared, so the mom went online and typed 'Thompson's Station grout cleaning services' in search of a company nearby that could help restore the floor. Sir Grout Nashville's website appeared among the first search results. She and her husband read all about our hard surface restoration services and previous work in Nashville and the surrounding areas. The couple decided to call us to explain their mudroom floor situation and to schedule a free, in-home inspection with our grout restoration experts that same week.
Sir Grout Nashville's team of grout cleaning experts went to the Thompson's Station property on the fixed day to examine the floor. As they inspected the room, they noticed what the client had told them over the phone about the accumulated dirt in the grout lines.
The purpose of a mudroom is to keep the house dirt- and mud-free. When coming in through this entryway, dirty clothes are left there to avoid getting the rest of house dirty, and sometimes this space also functions as a utility and/or laundry room. Naturally, the floors of this part of a house will deteriorate faster than most other rooms, as it happened to this Thompson's Station property—years of muddy foot-traffic and accumulating dirt had turned the grout into a dark, unattractive color. We offered the residents a grout cleaning and color sealing service to repair the floor and bring it back to its original state and they agreed without a second thought.
Our team returned to the house days later to begin the restoration job. For starters, we vacuumed the floor to remove any loose debris. Then, we hand scrubbed each grout line using Sir Grout's alkaline cleaner, which is ideal to remove grease and grime from surfaces where common household cleaners cannot. To return the floor to a neutral pH, we steam cleaned the grout lines and machine scrubbed the floor using Sir Grout's plant based natural cleaner.
Once the floor was completely clean, we re-colored the grout with ColorSeal—a thick, long-lasting, water-based, acrylic sealer that comes in a variety of colors. The homeowners chose a color similar to the light-brown ceramic tiles so the entire floor would have a more uniform look. ColorSeal also works as a sealant that makes the grout stain-, water-, mold-, and mildew-resistant, protecting it against spills, muddy footprints, and heavy foot-traffic.
The clients were thrilled when they saw their brand-new looking floor; they couldn't believe that tiles and grout could look the way they did after just one day of work. The grout lines were no longer dark, giving the room a brighter and cleaner feel. The residents were thankful and asked what could they do to prevent the grout from darkening again. Our team kindly went over a simple, regular maintenance guide to take care of the renewed floor from then on. First, we recommended the couple to make sure the cleaners they had were soap-less—it's always advisable to use cleaners that don't contain soap because soap leaves a sticky residue behind.
Furthermore, to prevent dirt from accumulating in the grout lines on the sealant, we gave them the following cleaning routine: soak the floor with a pH-neutral, soap-less cleaner and let it dwell for three to five minutes to loosen the dirt. Then, simply dry the floor with a towel or terry cloth, which will also remove dirt off the floor. By manually drying the floor, instead of allowing it to air dry, dirt won't be left behind when water evaporates.
